Notice of intention to commence Local Plan preparation
Under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended) and the The Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026 (opens new window), Regulation 19, Great Yarmouth Borough Council gives notice of its intention to prepare a new Local Plan for the Borough.
In accordance with Regulation 88 (opens new window), this "Notice of intention to commence next Local Plan preparation" and Local Plan Timetable are published on our website and are available for inspection at Town Hall, Hall Plain, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2QF, and all local libraries within the borough, during normal opening hours.
Name of planning authority who have prepared the notice
The Local Plan is being prepared by Great Yarmouth Borough Council. Great Yarmouth Borough Council have prepared this notice.
Geographical area that Local Plan will cover
The Local Plan will cover the administrative borough area of Great Yarmouth outside of the Broads Authority Executive Area. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) code for the Great Yarmouth Borough Council area is E07000145. The Local Plan area is shown on the map below.

Title of the Local Plan
The next Local Plan will be referred to as the "Great Yarmouth Local Plan 2045"
The Local Plan will not cover minerals and waste, as Norfolk County Council is the planning authority for these matters.
Provisionally, the plan period is proposed to be 2026 to 2045, however this will be confirmed following the preliminary scoping consultation, which is anticipated to take place in August 2026.
The Council expects to pass through Gateway 1 and commence the 30 month plan preparation process by 31 October 2026.
